showing our support

_o9j2626

Ian, Caroline, Carole and Scott went to the Barclays Chairman’s Awards last night. It’s a night to celebrate the great things that their people do in their communities around the world. It was this event last year that inspired us to start our SOS (Show Our Support) days so we were delighted to be invited. Oh, and any excuse for Scott to wear his kilt...

The winners and finalists are here if you fancy a peek.

happy campers

Some of us went camping this weekend. We go every summer, but due to the severe weather warning(!), only the hardcore turned out this year. Perseverance was however rewarded with just the one storm (albeit an almighty hiding-in-tents one) on saturday afternoon.

The rest of the weekend was spent finding tent poles missing, paddling in the sea, getting sunburn, hunting for samphire, drinking local cider, forgetting sleeping bags, wearing blankets (and other high-fashion items), listening to Rufus sing and, of course, a couple of good old sessions around the campfire.

demystification

Dscn0664

This is Grahame Clarke. He came all the way from Perth (Scotland, not Australia) to come and see us today. He’s taking part in NU's Learning Week and is one of a few people that will be visiting this week.

We’re hoping to show them a few bits and bobs from different departments across the agency, which will hopefully make a nice little creative soup. And if we can demystify some of the advertising ‘process’ for them along the way, all the better.

Carole and Chris were invited sailing on the Broads yesterday. It was a thank you from the Nancy Oldfield Trust for the free marketing hours we recently gave them. Being guests, they weren't really prepared to do as much work as they did! Efforts were well rewarded though with several glasses of wine on the banks of Barton Broad. Thanks to Dave for the sailing and Maggie for the wonderful salmon lunch!

avast ye!

Saturday night was Pret's summer do - a pirate party at Old Billingsgate Market. We sent landlubbers Will (behind the camera), Jude, Shannon and James to drink grog with hundreds of Pret shipmates til the wee hours.

Shannon, whilst the moustache suits you, on this occasion the prize for best dressed must really go to James.

(Just for the record, we tried really hard to avoid the puns...)

getting fresh in Guildford

Pret brought natural, fresh food to the streets of Guildford on Saturday - literally. Pret wanted to remind everyone living nearby that its food is freshly prepared, in the shop, on the day they buy it. We helped them take over the street with stencilled patches of grass (real, of course) and wheelbarrows of lovely healthy ingredients.

We handed out over 2000 vouchers in under two hours, making it a pretty good little event. The locals seemed to like it - even if the Community Officer that wanted to stop us didn't.

Tom's extreme trifle

Toms_brother_bike

We thought Tom took his biking seriously - until we heard this. He's just setting off on an epic journey to Belgium, via France, Germany and Luxembourg. It’s epic because it’s 1200kms, and he’s doing it on a C90 bike, which we’re told is, umm, not very good.

Tom’s riding as a part of Extreme Trifle, in which participants have ‘Budgets so small, a shoestring would be an indulgence.' Maybe just as well then, that 'It’s not the taking part but the breaking down that counts.’

That's Tom's brother ready to ride in the picture (Tom wouldn't show us what he's wearing...)

don't just stand there

Nu_underground_poster

On the Underground this week, James (probably drunk, judging by the unfocused shot) spied one of the posters we did for NU's City v City campaign. The event may have now gone but the poster still looked good. Hot, cramped and crappy, the tube wasn't running, unlike the 7,222 people who got involved.

Great North nutter

Neil_run

In September, Neil's running the Great North Run for the third consecutive year. He's doing it for Scope, the cerebral palsy charity, which helps people like Neil's brother-in-law 'run' their own lives. An admirable cause we think. If you want to sponsor him (or just giggle at his picture), click here.

It’s June, which heralds the start of summer in our book. And with the sun, out come those items that have been languishing at the back of our wardrobes since last year. Like Mike's shirt.

And with his neighbour Lee choosing purple today, the creative department is 'bright' in a whole new way today!
